Wholly inspired by the artist formerly known as Kate Moross, now Ares Moross. I first came across their work on Myspace, where my favourite London Grime MCs, Rave Flyers, now had this really cool handmade aesthetic that just stood out from the crowd as the London Grime scene was handed over to artists to curate. I took this inspiration, made my first poster, my name, Francisco Dean Carlos Ribeiro, trying to capture the emotion of each name.

Inspired by regular trips to Somerset House, this piece sits somewhere between illustration and typography, shaped by the London slang I grew up with. It’s a drawing of someone seeing something so sick they’re physically sick — the word SICK literally splattered onto the floor.

In my first years in the design industry, working in design agencies as interns and a junior, I would often be given tasks like create posters for events and I'd always take this as an opportunity to use my hand-drawn typography to make a poster in the office that everyone will stop, think is cool, and ask who did that. So this is my bank holiday poster.

This is one of my favourite posters made for Pancake Day initially. It became a tropicool T-shirt and one of the most popular ones at that..

This was one made for my brother's music, Rebello Music. It was a Notting Hill Carnival-inspired track, and deserved a Notting Hill Carnival-inspired artwork, and is one of my favourites for being so raw, expressive, and colourful.

Whilst working at Sapient in London, the designers were asked to create a poster to go on our studio wall. Naturally, I took this as an opportunity to be different and use my hand-painted style. I wanted it to be a large poster, and I was confident and mature enough by this point to do it without a computer, relying solely on my hand and painting.

All right, as you can see, this was the best day ever. Inspired by a trip to Oberon in the countryside of New South Wales, Australia. I was with my friends, drinking my homemade chai, and had some Posca pens, and created the hand-drawn, non-digital version of my Aries Moross-inspired typography.

Whether in London or in Sydney, my commitment to filling my room and creative space with optimistic, colourful paintings is something that will never stop.
